Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, proposed to the United Nations General Assembly to adopt June 21st of each year as the International Day of Yoga. In his address he said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.”
The potential impact yoga can have on world health was key to the U.N. passing this resolution with an overwhelming majority. Similarly, PURE Action’s vision is to “Heal the World with Yoga.” As a 501(c)3 nonprofit funding yoga research, we believe that a regular yoga practice should be an integral part of our health insurance and health maintenance.
Mardy and I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for over 15 years. We have experienced the power of yoga to heal old injuries, repair current ones, and de-stress our minds in the midst of today’s chaotic world. Yoga is indeed “the best medicine.” We formed PURE Action, Inc. with the mission of bringing the ancient benefits of yoga to mainstream medicine. We are thrilled that the United Nations is recognizing this holistic approach to health and that our mission is aligned with their resolution.
To introduce more of the general public to authentic Hatha yoga, we have declared Sunday, June 21, 2015, as a FREE Day of Yoga at all of our PURE Bikram Yoga studios. As a celebration of the International Day of Yoga, we will conduct all classes free of charge, and we will lead special classes with the specific asana series prescribed in the official site of International Day of Yoga.
Coincidentally, June 21st is also Father’s Day. At PURE, we have a special yoga dad and teacher, Edy Bailey. Read his testimonial in this month’s Austin Awakenings magazine. Inspire your dad to experience the life-changing and life-saving benefits of a regular Bikram Yoga practice. Remember: NO flexibility is required!
See you in the hot room!
